Current status of chemical carcinogenesis.
نویسنده
چکیده
The prevention of cancer by the elimination of, or decreased contact with, chemical carcinogens is dealt with under three headings. (a) Exposure of special groups: occupational cancer, iatronic cancer; (b) exposure of whole populations; (c) discovery of chemical carcinogens in the course of toxicity studies. It is most important that a major effort be made to interrelate findings in man with those in the laboratory. Combination and organization of the findings from many approaches: clinical and preventive medicine, public health, environmental protection, and laboratory research are required.

The development of molecular epidemiology to elucidate cancer risk and prognosis: a historical perspective.
Molecular epidemiology in cancer research grew from the field of chemical carcinogenesis and the use biomarkers for environmental exposures, with incorporation of principles from early pharmacogenetics. Over the years, molecular epidemiology has become extremely complex, with studies evaluating associations between cancer risk and prognosis and numerous markers of susceptibility, exposure and e...

Objective(s): The present work intended to clearly define the most adequate humane endpoints in an experimental assay of mammary carcinogenesis in rats. Materials and Methods: Animals were observed twice a day; all parameters were registered once a week and the euthanasia endpoints were established in order to monitor the animal welfare/...

Regulatory requirements and ICH guidelines on carcinogenicity testing of pharmaceuticals: A review on current status
Carcinogenicity studies are conducted in laboratory animals to evaluate the carcinogenic potential of pharmaceuticals. In drug discovery, rodent carcinogenicity studies are conducted with an objective to explore the mechanism of carcinogenesis and the ultimate risk to humans. Many problems are encountered in carrying out and interpretation of results for carcinogenicity bioassay. A number of fa...

This meeting was held in Cleveland, OH, on October 16 and 17, 1992, to provide an opportunity for clinicians and experimental sci entists working in cutaneous chemical, viral, and photocarcinogenesis to discuss the current status of knowledge regarding the mechanisms of the induction of cancer in the skin. Further aims of the meeting were to enhance interest in research using the skin for the s...
